posada

posada What is Posada? Posada is a Spanish word meaning ‘inn’. Posada celebrations originated in Mexico where two young people were chosen to dress up as Mary and Joseph. They used to travel from house to house in their village telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus and asking them if they would give Him a room. On Christmas Eve they would re-enact a community play and bring figures of Mary and Joseph to be placed in a crib. The modern day equivalent is based on this concept but encourages people to give a home to the nativity figures of Mary and Joseph for a night. This symbolises making room for Jesus in our lives, homes and communities. The journey encourages us to think about the meaning of Christmas and to share the message with others.

Posada in Windlesham. Each night from 1st December the figures travel around the parish from place to place arriving in Church at our Nativity service on Christmas Eve. Often people have a meal or children’s tea together to pass the figures on.

You can sign up on the poster in the Link if you’d like to offer the nativity figures an “inn” for the night.

If you’ve signed up already, you might want to look at the Church Army web-site that has games, colouring sheets and lanterns to make – all to do with Posada.

nappachinos

Here’s the plan for Nappachinos for this term.  For more information please contact Noeline at noeline@sanders-family.co.uk

“We have a fantastic range of topics and speakers this autumn and hope that many of you can make it to the talks.  Please do also take the chance to invite friends along if you wish.  As always, I would appreciate if you could let me know if you can make it or not by email…a quick yes/no/maybe would do. All the speakers who join us give their time voluntarily and you will no doubt appreciate that we need to be mindful of valuing their time commitment.

Monday 20th October- Alexander Technique
It is all in the posture and spine alignment…Susan Collie, one of the few practitioners of Alexander Technique in the area has kindly agreed to come and talk/ teach us about the technique. The effects are quite amazing…..and for those of you who are always rushing around after a little ones, it is a good technique to learn.

Monday 17th November – Refresher on first aid techniques
I wonder if you are like me…having done a first aid course nearly 6 years ago, I am not sure if I can remember or have the confidence to administer the right procedure should I be faced with a situation. Richard Beer, Divisional Superintendent for the Frimley Division has kindly agreed to come along and give us a refresher, primarily focussing on on children related situations.

Monday December 15th -Acupuncture etc and Christmas ideas
Time to think about improving your energy levels and health conscious resolutions for the New Year?  Mrs Gerry Beattie from Windlesham will encourage us with some of the complimentary therapies of Acupuncture, Cupping etc .  As it the last one before Christmas, we hope to have a Christmas themed flower demonstration/ appetiser ideas to round off the year as well.”

nappachinos 25th feb – music

coffee_cup_steam.jpgWe are pleased to have Maria Sanger coming along to Nappachinos on Feb 25th @10.30am at The Link, St John’s church.  Some of you may be thinking of a suitable musical instrument for your children or maybe even for yourself.  Maria is a local, experienced and professional player of the recorder.

It will be an informal chat/workshop on how you/your child or a group of friends could learn/continue to play the recorder at whatever age!

Some of you may have played the recorder in years gone by.  This could be a chance to re-kindle, inspire and help your children discover their musical talent!

Looking forward to seeing you and please let Noeline (noeline@sanders-family.co.uk) know if you will be there.

parenting course

Mother and childAfter a successful and popular course in 2007 , we’re offering the course on parenting skills for parents of children aged from nought to six again over February/March 2008.

It will be based once again on the excellent parenting course by the “Family caring Trust” and will run over a series of 8 evening sessions.  The course will offer resources that can provide thought-provoking ideas, common sense suggestions and effective support to parents dealing with young children as well as an opportunity to share experiences with other parents in a relaxed and supportive environment.  Family Caring Trust was founded in 1986 to support and empower parents by providing practical, skill-based resources to improve family relationships.  For over a decade, these resources have been the most popular parenting materials in Britain and Ireland – over half a million parents have experienced at least one of the courses. They have also been translated into many languages.  We are running the course in partnership with the NCT Windlesham, Bagshot and Lightwater branch.

Please register your interest with Sue James (suzie.james@virgin.net, 07795 244240), or Helen Connolly (helen@dromore26.freeserve.co.uk) by the end of December 2007.  Please also contact us if you would like to find out more from parents who have experienced the course first hand.
