summer challenge and dates for dangerous club for boys

Dangerous Club for Boys web v01OK, the summer is here so it’s time for a challenge.  If you’re by the beach sometime during the holidays, why not build a model boat from bits you find on the beach (beware of sharp objects!).  Once your masterpiece is ready write on the side or add a note in a waterproof container saying “Please photograph and email the photo and location found to events@dangerousclubforboys.com”.  We’ll have a prize for the most travelled boat.

Looking forward, here’s the dates for DC4B over the coming school year.  Normally we’ll meet in the late afternoon but some activities will be longer so keep a track on the web-site: 11th Oct, 15th Nov, 24th Jan 2010, 7th Mar, 16th May, 11th July

rockets on july 12 – dangerous club for boys

Dangerous Club for Boys web v01Our next meeting is on Sunday 12th July from 4pm-6pm and we are kindly being hosted by Woodcote House School.  You can find directions on the School’s website

Our theme this time is rockets and we’ve got plenty of fun planned.  If you’d like to make your own rocket beforehand then why not make a water rocket body out of a 2 litre fizzy drinks bottle.  You’ll find lots of ideas on Google for decoration/fins/etc and we’ll provide the launchers.

We’ll finish with pizza and need to know how many people will be coming so please let us know asap by email to events@dangerousclubforboys.com.  The event will be weather dependent so take look at the web-site on the day and we’ll tell you about any changes of plan.

the dangerous club for boys

Dangerous Club for Boys web v01

We had our first meeting of the Dangerous Club for Boys on Sunday 10th May and what fun we had.  The club is for lads and dads aged 5-105 and we started off with an afternoon of Scalectrix and pizza.  We decided we’d try to get together every half-term and came up with a whole range of things we’d like to get up to – here’s the list:

  • Water and air rockets
  • Archery
  • Climbing wall
  • Geo-caching
  • Giant catapults/trebuchets
  • Canoes/kayaks/raft building
  • Cricket
  • Shelter building / camp craft
  • Make your own cross-bow/long-bow
  • Air-rifle shooting
  • Making a potato canon

So if you think the Dangerous Club is your sort of fun and might be where you’d like to spend some quality time with your lad/dad then keep an eye on the web-site for updates and the date of our next meeting.

posada

posada What is Posada? Posada is a Spanish word meaning ‘inn’. Posada celebrations originated in Mexico where two young people were chosen to dress up as Mary and Joseph. They used to travel from house to house in their village telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus and asking them if they would give Him a room. On Christmas Eve they would re-enact a community play and bring figures of Mary and Joseph to be placed in a crib. The modern day equivalent is based on this concept but encourages people to give a home to the nativity figures of Mary and Joseph for a night. This symbolises making room for Jesus in our lives, homes and communities. The journey encourages us to think about the meaning of Christmas and to share the message with others.

Posada in Windlesham. Each night from 1st December the figures travel around the parish from place to place arriving in Church at our Nativity service on Christmas Eve. Often people have a meal or children’s tea together to pass the figures on.

You can sign up on the poster in the Link if you’d like to offer the nativity figures an “inn” for the night.

If you’ve signed up already, you might want to look at the Church Army web-site that has games, colouring sheets and lanterns to make – all to do with Posada.

remembrance day service – 9th nov 9:30am

We will be holding a family service for remembrance day on Sunday 9th Nov at 9:30am. The service is intended for all the family and will be followed by breakfasty refreshments. We’ll then be finished in time to join the laying of wreaths at the war memorial. The traditional Remembrance Day service follows the laying of wreaths and there will be no special provision for children at that service.
